Japan Typhoon – Advanced Study into Extreme Wind Events

A recent advanced study by our research team looked at extreme wind events in Japan from the last 100 years. This collaborative study utilized the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)’s advanced, boundary-layer model and PartnerRe’s CatFocus® Japan Typhoon model.

Key findings:

• 6 wind events had the potential to cause Jebi-sized losses at today’s exposure
• Typhoon Jebi (2018) ranks 4^th in the last 100 years
• The return period of a Jebi-sized loss is approximately 20-25 years
